Tulum Dive and Snorkel
Scuba diving in Tulum is a once in a lifetime experience because it is the only place in Mexico where you can try reef, cave, cenote dive in just one day. No wonder there are many dive shops and tour operators in Tulum because the marine life and coral reefs in this part of the Caribbean are truly spectacular. The water in this part of Mexico is so clean and teeming with marine life, so anyone who loves the sea, the powdery sands, and the reefs will surely find scuba diving to be a must-do activity when visiting Tulum.
It is important to note that even those with no scuba diving certification can go diving in Tulum. Many Tulum dive shops offer beginner’s courses for teens or for those who do not have experience in reef, cave, cenote dive. If you are not a professional diver, you do not even have to buy any diving equipment because you can rent scuba diving gear in nearby dive shops. Some dive tour operators even bundle the rent of diving equipment with the total diving fees. The Great Mayan Reef, which is the second biggest coral reefs in the world, is actually a great site because of the diversity of fish, algae, corals and other sea animals that can be found living in this enormous coral reef.
As mentioned earlier, diving in Tulum is often composed of reef, cave, cenote dive tours. Tulum is actually known for its underground cave that have magnificent crystal formations and marine life, which can only be accessible through diving. However, cave diving is usually reserved for people who either have prior experience in scuba diving or those who are willing to undergo cave diving courses. But if you try cave or cenote diving in Tulum, it will surely be worth it because only few underground caves are easily accessible.
Tours that include reef, cave, cenote dive tours can be quite pricey. However, since this is your only chance to go cenote diving in Tulum, the money that you will pay for the tour will be truly worth it. By the way, cenotes are sinkholes found in the Yucatan Peninsula. Cenotes are quite important to Mayan civilization because these are a great source of clean water. This is the reason why cenotes are sacred grounds to the Mayans.
