"Cenote Calaveras Adventure"
Maria Boyd Said on: 2009-09-04
Discovering the Cenote Calaveras was definately one of the highlights of my trip to the Mayan Riviera. I have always sought out and enjoyed the off the beaten path type of experience and the discovery of Cenote Calaveras fulilled my quest for solitary bonding with nature. Upon jumping straight into the refreshingly chilled temperature of the clear fresh water, I was drawn to the dark outer perimeters of the cave. After my eyes adjusted to the lack of light, I discovered the snoozing bats hanging overhead and the hundreds of fish circling around me. Being the brave one of my goup of three (my husband, my 6-year-old daughter and myself), I assured my family that not only was it save for swimming, but it was in fact a fascinating natural and geological adventure. We had the cenote all to ourselves until we were ready to leave. Then as we were exiting the cenote, three other tourists arrived. My 6-year-old daughter then demonstrated how brave she was by jumping in from the ledge. She definately inherited my thrill for daring adventure!
